The film - well, Viggo could be a sign of dire pretension.

D.Dave Koppermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09292071349686573917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2457411005352662997.post-54356388083193578032009-11-20T10:19:16.421-05:002009-11-20T10:19:16.421-05:00The Road is an overrated pile of merde.. I still have an email my sister wrote to me about a decade ago using dictation software. She deliberately left it un-edited, and the parts where she laughs aloud at what the software wrote are priceless.Christinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15159869224596312134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2457411005352662997.post-36163215732250912902009-11-19T10:28:51.604-05:002009-11-19T10:28:51.604-05:00I like Kaufmann films in general, because even tho...I like Kaufmann films in general, because even though he overdoes the surrealism, he's trying to wrestle equally with big, philosophical issues and small personal foibles.

I've probably never made it clear that this is a reason why I eventually got off the Lynch train: while I admire idiosyncratic stylists, I generally like to know there's some deeper meaning that motivates them. Kaufmann, Gondry, Cronenberg, etc., use their films as a means to explore interesting questions, whereas Lynch seems to be exploring film for its own sake. Not a criticism, mind you, just not for me.

D.Dave Koppermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09292071349686573917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2457411005352662997.post-62282814176184762932009-11-19T10:19:26.462-05:002009-11-19T10:19:26.462-05:00Wow, I'm a little suprised you liked Synechdoc...Wow, I'm a little suprised you liked Synechdoche. I could see a typically caustic Dave dismissmal there... So, good. I thought it was a very cool movie, myself.
Speaking of things that will bum you out for days, wait until you see The Road. I just read the book. Yeesh.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07411375926696127093noreply@blogger.com
