Riding Out the Summer

How is it that it's only July 8th, and I already feel like the Summer is over? That's either a sign of encroaching middle-aged melancholy, or merely poor scheduling on my part.

I've always felt that way.. To me 4th of July marks the beginning of the end of Summer..

Well, you've always been a master of both poor scheduling AND early-onset middle-aged melancholy...

Or the dead end of Summer. It's all regrets and thank-you's from here on out.

I feel like summer is for kids... adults don't get summers, really. It's the same old year, same daily stuff, but with more work because people keep taking off and you keep having to cover for them. Those people who keep taking off generally have summer homes or children (or both) and if you have neither, well, all you get are overpriced hotel reservations, if you're lucky.
(Saith the bright-eyed optimistic twentysomething. So no, it's not just middle-aged melancholy.)

I have it strange - I work from home, but I'm the entirety of the work force. Meaning that any vacation longer than a few days is an impossibility.

Change of life... starting.... now.
